No need to stop using your hot tub. But if the water is getting too warm, then make sure the temperature control is turned all the way down. The friction of the pump will tend to keep the water warm. If the water gets too hot, or your read-out reads OHH, open or remove the cover. Do this after a rainstorm, or after sunset, when the air temperature is going down. Hot air rises and doing that will let any heat that’s in your hot tub escape.
Hot Tub covers should never have standing water on them after a rainstorm. If there is any water on the cover, push the water off. Normally, covers, at least the newer ones, are made with pitched tops so water will normally drain off. Also, you should be able to lift up the cover with one hand. If you cannot do this, it means that the cover is getting waterlogged. That’s the time to start thinking about replacing your cover with one of the newer, lighter covers.
If you are going on vacation, do not drain your hot tub. Turn the temperature down to the lowest setting, and make sure the chemicals are balanced. If you are going away for an extended period of time, have a neighbor/friend check the hot tub when they come over to check your house. Be sure to tell them where the breaker for the hot tub is, so they can turn off the electricity to it if needed.
